Frequent testimonies of victims report about torture in prisons, as well as the accumulation of prisoners in police stations, while the Egyptian government denies these numbers<\/li><li>While the economic situation in Egypt keeps deteriorating, the number of prisons increased by nearly 30%<\/li><li>The Egyptian Government justifies its failure to reach budget goals in the sectors of Health, Education and Infrastructure with the budget deficit and the lack of financial funds, meanwhile no detailed reports are being released on the cost of establishing new prisons.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9dac929 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9dac929\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>According to an economic study published by the independent newspaper &#8222;Mada Masr&#8220;, only 2.2% of the budget was spent on Education in 2019, while Article 19 of the Egyptian constitution states that &#8222;the state shall commit to allocating a percentage of government spending for education of not less than 4% of the gross national product, which will gradually increase until it is in line with international rates.&#8220;<\/p><p>Only 1.2% of the budget was spent on the Health sector in 2019, while Article 18 of the constitution also stipulates that &#8222;the state shall commit to allocating a percentage of government spending to health not less than 3% of the gross<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-d025c7f elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" Often dubbed as a voice of the revolution and a champion of women's rights, her activism covers a wide range of activities. In June 2014, she was awarded the Ludovic Trarieux International Human Rights Prize while being in prison making her the second person after Nelson Mandela to be awarded that prize while in imprisonment. He was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2018, after being held for five years without any charges.\nMr. Kassem had always denied the charges against him.\nKassem's brother-in-law Mustafa Ahmed, had previously described conditions at the maximum-security Tora prison, where he was kept, as dire.\n\"The cells are filthy, infested with insects, rodents, and snakes\" he wrote in an op-ed for The New York Times last year.\u00a0\n\"They have no ventilation, sun or light. Kassem and the other prisoners have no access to clean water, a bed, a chair or any books.\"\nThe top US diplomat for the Middle East, David Schenker, described Mr. Kassem's death as \"needless, The reason for his prompt return was to stop news of his suicide attempt of spreading.
